Adding FLAC files to Vox only puts them in Playlist view - Completely useless

#1

When adding albums that are in the FLAC format, Vox will only put them into the playlist view.

This makes it impossible to do the following:
1. Shuffle an album.
2. Repeat an album.
3. Add songs to collections.
And more.

If I wanted to listen to an album by itself, I'd have to delete the entire playlist, navigate to the album in Finder, and drag all the tracts over. I'd have to repeat this every time. This is very poor design.

Attached are two screenshot demonstrating this.

How can I add FLAC albums to my *actual* library? The entire reason I purchased Vox was to listen to FLAC... And yet I've been dealing with this missing functionality for a long time, and it's beyond the point where it should be added.

Thanks,

This all seems possible with the beta version of Loop, by the way, so it's clearly possible behavior. I hope that the ability to add FLAC files to your own library (on one's own machine) will end up behind a paywall of some sort.

#3

Hi Thomas,

Yep, we will implement this in the new version.

Thanks for your feedback :)

#4

I'd like to have this functionality and then I will use VOX and not have to use other players. Please can you let me know when the next version is due for release. Thanks.

#5

yes, please add this, VOX is pretty much useless as a standalone app without it.

#6

We've implemented this feature and now it's called Loop for VOX, be sure to find more information here:
https://coppertino.com/loop-for-vox

And feel free to write us back if any questions arise.

So, your solution to being able to have a proper library of my FLAC files, is to make me upload all my files to the cloud? Hmm, I don't think that's a great solution, in fact, it's horrible. Why would I want to do that, if the cloud option was secondary as an offer, that's nice, but this way is all kinds of wrong.

#8

Loop was made especially for lossless formats such as FLAC.

Could you please tell us what exactly is not convenient for you in using cloud for playing your library?

You can set up a free trial for 14 days in the latest version of VOX to test it out.

Looking forward to your reply!

Well, firstly, as i say I don't have an iPhone and can't see a time I'd ever want to stream my FLAC files over the Internet. When I'm listening to music on the move fidelity isn't my primary motivation, speed and convenience is.

What I want is a convenient desktop music player that has a lovely interface that has a Library for my Flac files, basically, I want VOX, exactly how it is but without the subscription. I'll happily pay for the standalone app and I suspect that's how the majority of other people are going to feel about things.

I'm only starting to redigitise my music in a FLAC format as well as occasionally downloading new HD files from places like HD Tracks and Pono- it's already telling me that it's going to take 18 hours to upload my meagre collection, I have over 2,000 albums, I'm never uploading them to the cloud.

Also, I'm confused by some of your articles. When I'm playing files stored in Loop on my desktop (where my original files are) - are they streaming or playing locally?

Sorry, but I just think the explanation of what Loop is, is very ambiguous.

#10

Well said Simon. I agree entirely with all your points, as I find myself in an identical situation.

#11

Hey guys,

Thanks for your thoughts.

Actually they can be both played from cloud and you can as well download them on your Mac.

You can easily test it out and later decide if you want to use it.

Let us know if you have any further question, we would be glad to help you out!

Again, why would I want to do that? They're already on my computer, there is absolutely NO use case scenario where I'd want to download them to my mac. Even if it were on another mac, I'd just copy them across a network. Loop just doesn't make any sense.

Additionally, streaming FLAC files to my phone makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, for example, one album from HD Tracks is 680MB, so if I want to listen to stream it from wherever, that's going to take up a massive chunk of my available phone storage and use up 30% of my data allowance.

Plus, you still haven't said how much it's going to be.

I just don't understand what kind of a meeting took place where anyone thought this would be a good idea, especially coupled with the fact that there's services like Tidal to which I don't have to upload anything at all.

I'm certain I'm not alone, ALL I want is for Vox to be able to act as a library/media player for iTunes AND Flac files. I just can't see why anyone would want the service you're offering as a subscription model.

I wish you luck and of course could be wrong, probably am.

#13

Simon - I agree with you. I have an idea. If you drop your email address here we can discuss.

Greg

#14

Actually, I've just seen how much it is, so at least that's sorted.

#15

Well, it's actually can be hassle to copy all the files from one machine to another and then playing them later even though the network. Price is a $4.99/ month or $49.99/ year.

And thanks for your opinion in any case. That's important for us to improve our services in future.

#16

Yes, saw the price.

It's actually not really a hassle to copy files over at all though I can see how it might be for some.

Additionally, I'm listening to some HD music now, I just signed out of Loop and hey presto, now, I can't even play the files that ARE ON MY COMPUTER. Seriously. What's the thought process behind that?

At the VERY LEAST, make the programme functional as it is with the OPTION to subscribe to loop for cross device play and cloud storage.

Urg,

Oh, and Greg,, there's no way to drop you a PM and I'm not putting my email up here unless you're happy to put yours up.

Hi Simon,

Please try to run the following script:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvx1f6t00kk6ka4/ResetVox.zip?dl=0

That should help, please let us know if it solves your problem.

#18

Simon - Understand and thinking about it I feel the same. If you're on Facebook, you can find me there and I'll accept a friend request.

#19

I agree with both users. The cloud option might be useful to some, but the overheads of downloading tracks as you listen is immense, and is the internet going to work all the time?

Uploading is a waste of time for me, and the best way for me to listen is by computer, with transfer of a few tracks to the mobile device. What we need is a clear place on the iPhone/iPad where files are stored. The iTunes library won't accept FLAC files as iTunes can't play them, so another solution is required.

If you need to attract revenue, why not charge $5 for the app/program after a try before you buy interval? The Loop could be correspondingly cheaper as an upgrade for those who want it.

Please think about this, as it is a deal breaker for me, and I'm sure for a significant number of potential users.
