Vox jumping/skipping within tracks

#1

I am having a very frequent problem where Vox repeatedly jumps back to an earlier segment of a track for 10-15 seconds and then resumes playing from the correct time.

I mainly use Vox to play long MP3 files (30 mins. or more) which are launched from Finder.

I am running Vox 2.3 build 2303 on a late-2013 MacBook Pro with an SSD and Yosemite.

Max, are You using Apple Magic Mouse in Your setup?

I do and when I hover over position bar and make horizontal movement by finger (which translates as scrolling), position is getting changed.

Also, can You upload some of these mp3's for us to test?

Thanks for the reply. The problem is not related to scrolling the position bar, though it was a good guess. I only use the trackpad, the problem occurs without touching anything, Vox is not visible, and the behaviour doesn't match.

What happens is that audio hiccups back to an earlier point for a few seconds, and then jumps back to the correct time and resumes normally. The displayed time and position does not jump back though; just the sound.

For example, say the audio playing normally and is now at exactly 30 minutes. Usually, what happens next is that I will hear the audio from about 29:45-29:55, and then it would resume normally back at 30:01. Often this pattern will happen repeatedly for a few minutes, with the audio playing normally for a few seconds, playing a previous segment, resuming at the correct point, etc.

It happens with every MP3 I have that is over 2 hours long.

It also happens sometimes with even short MP3s of approx. 3 minutes duration.

The behaviour is not consistent. Playing the same file will not result in the skips at the same points.

Most of the skipping usually occurs at the beginning of the files, with the first 5 minutes being a complete jumble.

I'll try to see if I can find a file under 10 MB that displays this behaviour regularly, but I am pretty certain it is not the data.

Incidentally, I have used VOX for many years, and these same files used to play fine. The problem only arose within the last few weeks or so. Sorry, I don't remember exactly when.

Max, thanks for explanation.

There's nothing particular changed recently to the way VOX plays mp3 files so that sounds really strange. I will tell You more, it's OS X component actually playing mp3 in VOX, both now and then. Though it's possible that something goes wrong on really long tracks (2 hours or more).

will have to test this more seriously, definitely, if this is a bug, it will be fixed soon.

Hmmm... It might be due to my upgrading to Yosemite then. What is the name of the component in OS X which might be causing the problem? I'll search around a little then and see if I can find any clues to the problem.

it's called, Core Audio. Nothing really changed for mp3 in Yosemite, as far as I know... I tested on my files, (the longest I tried has 1hour 30 minutes, now generating 2:30 file for test), problem is not reproduced so far.

I have the exact same issue- has made the program pretty much unusable. In my case it seems to play AAC (m4a) tracks just fine but my large collection of mp3 will often skip around or cut out early. I have repeatedly check to make sure the tracks are ok in other software, such as iTunes, vlc, etc and they play perfectly without error in those apps.

please let us see just one track that is skipping - for the moment no one of those who complained has uploaded a single skipping/cutting track for us to check!
