Useful "Audiophile" features

#1

I'm waiting patiently for full 3rd party Audio Units plugin support, but I think the following would be useful:

- DSP tools like the ones provided in JRiver Media Center - especially parametric EQ
- Fixed volume level (so it can be set once and it won't accidentally change) Useful for when using EQ to make >+0db adjustments
- Metering Visualizations
- Insert silence when automatically switching sample rates - prevent nasty pops

DSP and metering can be done with free third party and Apple AUs.

Jason,

Thanks for recommendations.

Sac is right, currently we rely on Audio Units for DSP/metering stuff, however, we might change our own metering in the future.

  • Fixed volume level: how do You see this implemented? a checkbox in Prefs and hidden volume fader in main window? how should we treat >0dB EQ adjustments in that case?
  • Insert silence - now (in 2.4 and above) switching sample rates goes silently by VOX, but that does not mean pops will not occur since some audio interfaces seem to introduce these pops themselves even with "-inf" volume in VOX.
