Things I don't like in the new Vox

#1

Vox has been my favorite player for years (0.2.x and 0.3.x versions). I didn't know there was a new version, I found out today. My first reaction when seeing the new GUI was "I don't like it, I don't want another iTunes, or another Spotify, or another music file manager, I just want a simple player", so I reverted to my old versions immediately. However, when dragging the play position in the 0.3 beta 1, the app broke, and was unable to play any other file. I tried to reinstall other legacy versions, even rebooting the Mac, but it didn't fix it. I tried to delete preference files in ~/Library/*, as well as a "ResetVox.app" script you published in these forums, but no way, the old Vox versions are definitely broken for my Mac, I don't know the reason.

So, I said, "let's try the new Vox because it's just that or moving to another player".

And I report here the things that I didn't like and that might make me move to another player:

1- My most often used feature in the old Vox was playing all the files in a folder. I know I can do this in the new Vox by using the playlist mode and adding a folder to it. But I don't save playlists, and I won't, because I don't have the time. If I clear the playlist and open another folder, the new Vox doesn't keep a list of recently played files, so I cannot easily replay my recently played folders. Yes, when you open Vox again it keeps the files you were listening to, but... if I was listening to trance, and now I wish to play Vivaldi, what can I do? Clear the playlist and open the Vivaldi folder. Yes, but how do I get back to the trance folder if Vox doesn't keep a list of recent files and I don't save playlists? You killed my everyday workflow in Vox.

2- I don't like the automatic vertical scrolling of the top panel when you want to adjust the EQ, or view the file details, or view the playlist. In the old Vox you were seeing _all_ of this and in a smaller window!! Do you mean I have to be constantly pressing buttons for seeing the file details together with the volume slider?

3- The font for the track name is too huge. My track names are usually long, so I prefer an smaller font.

In other words, the older Vox was much better for me, but I cannot go back to it because it won't play any file on my Mac anymore.

I'd wish you could take into consideration my comments and modify the new Vox in a way that I could continue enjoying it like the older version.

After a couple of days trying to get used to the new Vox, I found another couple of limitations compared to the older Vox:

1- Lack of control for modifying the speed without changing the pitch. This was a "number 1" feature for me, and it made Vox a very special player. I tend to enjoy tuning the speed of some tracks -slightly-, depending on my mood. This cannot be done with the new Vox.

2- Lack of GUI button for the Audio Units panel. I usually run Vox in a secondary monitor, and having to travel to the menu to open the AU panel is an inconvenience. Note that I only use it for AUMatrixReverb, but quite often because I like to listen to music tuning the reverb.

The older Vox was just perfect. If I could run it in ElCapitan I'll switch to it, but unfortunately it refuses to play any music track at all.

I really hope you could take into consideration all of this and turn the new Vox as great as the older version was. In one word, it was perfect, it had it all, and with the simplest UI you could imagine. It was perfect.

Hello César,
Thanks for Your feedback!
You can download legacy versions here: http://coppertino.com/old-versions

But, we can’t guarantee it’s stable work on the latest operating
systems.

Please let me know if I can offer any further assistance!

Thanks a lot! That last beta from 0.3 does work fine on my 10.11.6 machine! I don't know why, but all previous versions don't play any music at all, however that last beta does work!

Thanks!
