I just downloaded Vox because it supposedly supports gapless playback. The only control I can find is a default "crossfade" property, there's no actual way to toggle true gapless playback for albums, or am I missing something? This makes playing albums that have continuous crossfades problematic, as there's always a jump between tracks.
Gapless playback support?
A.J.,
Thanks for question.
Actually, VOX tries now to play gaplessly every time it can and does this really good. There are, however, situations where gapless playback is impossible or not preferred, in these cases, VOX will play with a little gap between tracks:
1) MP3 files with wrong or missing gapless information. MP3s are
too bad for gapless playback. Much better are Flac, Opus, Ogg, m4a
and many other formats.
2) two tracks in question (tracks now transitioning from and to)
have different sample rate, channel count or bit depth, and "Sync
sample rate" or "Hog device" options are enabled. In that case,
these audio options are given higher priority over the gapless
playback.
3) In Preferences, a "Gap" setting is enabled that artificially
introduces a gap between tracks like on CD.
4) next file is on slow network or drive and takes too long to
start playing, while previous track has finished.
5) tracks are not recorded to appear gapless, i.e. there is a pause
in the beginning/end of every song intentionally introduces by a
recording/mastering engineer.
For best gapless behaviour, have "Gap/overlap" setting at "Gapless" position or disable it at all.
