Better Browsing (not quite a library, but kind of)

#1

Hi Vox,

I love your player a lot. Other questions / suggestions have danced around this point, but I want to suggest it outright.
I like the experience of browsing through my iTunes library via Vox. I listen by album almost exclusively, and love how it lists music by album then lists the album's songs via a double click, and the ability to search by album and double click to play the album.

However, as you yourselves advertise, Vox is a minimalist replacement to iTunes. That said, I want to keep Vox completely seperate from iTunes. If I could browse any folder on my drive with the same 'list by album' style that I can when using the iTunes source, Vox would be completely perfect in my eyes.

I would guess that you are probably using iTunes APIs to provide such a clean and quick album sorted interface, but please add the feature to browse any folder on your drive with the same 'album view' that is provided with the iTunes source. I want to be free of iTunes and solely use Vox to play my music, but dragging files into Vox is not exactly my idea of great UX.

I agree with this a million times over. I love the Vox interface, but I hate iTunes. I don't like to have to import everything into iTunes only to never use iTunes again :-) If Vox would watch a folder and index things by album itself, it would be totally ideal.

Also, the current way the albums are pulled from iTunes doesn't work well if there's more than one artist on the album. This produces one copy of the album for each (title + artist) pair. Which is even more confusing because it's impossible to play albums in order because the sorting is way off.

see my suggestion with mockup [here] and comment there if you like it, maybe we can consolidate some support (http://support.coppertino.com/discussions/suggestions/477-artist-al...)
