Audio Units

#1

The audio units function is very awesome. My question is, can I use audio unit plug-ins not made ny apple e.g. waves?

#2

Currently, in version 2.2.11, only Apple AUs supported. There are plans on extending support to third-party AU's, however, there are lots of incompatible and old Audio Units out there that would simply crash VOX because of incompatibility with Apple guidelines for Audio Units.

#3

Just installed the recent update, which enables VOX support for 3rd party AUs. However, when I try to enable any of AU (even Apple ones), I get the message that "something is very wrong in Audio System". Is there any way to get a debug log to look deeper into the issue?

#4

Karlis,

Usually this means that something in Your system is incompatible with VOX+AudioUnits, but this can also be a bug. You can always get the log using Console app (type "Console" in Spotlight, select Console, then in Console, type "vox" in search field, Please copy full contents here.)

Which sound card are You using? how much channels does currently track have?

#5

since the latest update, I've been able to use all my plug-ins. Waves, AU
types. greatest player ever !
Thank you,

Thanks for your reply, soundguy!

I had the error several times before I even started to play back my audio. Then I just played it without any AUs and tried to add effects again, and it seems to work now even for paused/stopped audio. In case this is helpful, this was the Console log when there was an error:

I'm using the default sound card on iMac11,1. I had 16bit/44,1kHz FLAC loaded in my playlist.

#7

Karlis, thank You, will pay attention to it.

Audio units work fine, BUT... why does VOX "lose" all the settings when closed? I spend 30 minutes setting up the audio units for my preferences, only to find all of the settings are gone then next time I load VOX. There is no save option and the only setting is custom. I can't save anything to the "custom" setting. Why bother having these settings if you can't save them? It's a total waste of time!

#9

Tim,

Thanks for Your comment

This issue somehow skipped from our attention, thanks for reminding.

Below I will describe what we currently think about this.

Currently it's assumed AU's are set up every time user needs them, because they were added for specialised semi-pro people. On the other side, VOX is not DAW to keep every effect setting from third-party plugins.

I will repeat - Currently. This might change if we see enough request for that. VOX is free and we need to focus on most requested stuff.

Please note that there's no point to use complicated effect setup with VOX - this way it would just make worse. In DAW environment, plugins are rarely used in series of more than 2-3 effects per channel, and channels are individual instruments, not total mixes.

In VOX, we are usually processing the finalised mix prepared in studio, so there's no need in a long and complicated chain of effects.

As always, grateful for Your thoughts.

#10

Thank you for the reply. I'm not looking to save a chain of different combinations of effects. My thought was to save only the settings for individual effects as they were when the program closed. For example, After adjusting the equalizer to my preferences, I would like to open VOX the next time and have just those settings remain as I had left them. Just a suggestion, and thank you for taking the time to consider my request.

#11

Tim, thank You for clarification, we are definitely taking heed of Your request!

#12

Hi,

I got the 2.4 version. I run on os 10.10.1. Can't make my personal AUs work... only the apple ones... Could you help me please! tx

#13

Hello B!

Are You seeing some error messages when trying to enable Your AU's?

#14

No...I can use the Apple ones... airplay works fine too...

#15

B,

then, how do You know that third-party AU's are not working? Are they listed in "add AU" list?

#16

Soundguy,

no, they don't show up...

#17

B, sorry for delay,

Then, could You tell which audio units You are trying to add? There are compatible/incompatible types.

#18

Dear Audio Unit users, VOX 2.5 has received substantial update in AU management, including fixing bugs and adding chain persistence (storing on shutdown). Please test.

#19

Hi,

It works just fine.

Tx
