24/96 on iPhone not recognized by DAC

#1

I'm running Vox with iPhone 6 Plus. I've downloaded a 24/96 file onto Vox via Loop. I try playing this through my iFi DSD DAC, but the DAC doesn't recognize it as a 24/96 file. However, if I play this file through the Onkyo HP app, the DAC does recognize it as a 24/96. Vox says the file is 24/96, but it doesn't seem to play it as such.

If, however, I play this same file on Vox on my Mac, it does successfully change the bit rate to 24/96.....

Kevin, thank You for feedback.
Currently VOX for iOS doesn't have "sync sample rate" feature enabled, for the compatibility reasons. It will play at sample rate the DAC is currently running, so first make sure Your DAC uses 96kHz sr, and VOX should pick it up. If not - that might be the case with Your DAC type, then I will kindly ask You to do more tests on upcoming app releases.

So the ifi DAC definitely runs 96. However, it still needs to be set by the phone.

Check out the Onkyo HP app. It can run formats including 24/96 and even DSD. It controls my ifi without a problem. So, my understanding is that Vox/iPhone does not have that functionality. There is a profusion of portable DACs with this capability. I look forward to testing it out on Vox in near term release.

Yes, thats the reason - VOX does not try to alter device's current sample rate. However, this will change.
